City High Middle School Marching Band is going National
Grand Rapids Public Schools’ City High School has been invited to be a representative of Michigan in the 2020 National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C. The invitation arrived after a nomination by Mayor Rosalynn Bliss, which guarantees acceptance to the parade. The band will travel to Washington D.C. to celebrate America’s 244th birthday and perform before thousands of spectators.

Rep. Elijah Cummings Passes Away
Born to a family of Southern sharecroppers and Baptist preachers, Elijah Cummings grew up in the racial tensions of Baltimore in the 50s and 60s. At 11 while being attacked with bottles and rocks, he helped integrate a local swimming pool. According to his office, the cause of death was “complications concerning long-standing health challenges."

ACTION! Speak up against the Violence
There have been to this date, 13 homicides and even more violence recorded in Grand Rapids this year. What is intolerable is the fact that even the babies and young children have been hurt or shot. Violence by itself in general is not acceptable. However, violence against our most vulnerable is deplorable. Rather than being silent about information you may know, call Silent Observer and speak up. Call the Grand Rapids Police Department and say something.
