Bobby Shmurda is likely to have more time tacked onto his sentence as the rapper plead guilty Thursday (Feb. 2) to one count of attempted promoting prison contraband, admitting that he tried to sneak a shank into jail. He will serve between one and a third to four years for the nonviolent felony, Bossip reports.

“Is it true that on that date…that you did, in fact, possess a white latex glove balloon wrapped in tape with a sharp metal object?” Bronx Supreme Court Judge Marc Whitten asked. “Attempted, yes sir,” Shmurda answered. The incident in question took place at Riker's Island in 2015. Shmurda will appear in court next month for sentencing.

It was reported in December that Shmurda was nearing a plea deal in the case that would have him avoiding perjury charges. In October, he was sentenced to one to three years for conspiracy in the fourth degree and seven years for criminal possession of a weapon. According to the New York Daily News, Shmurda told the judge he was forced to take his plea deal. “I was forced to take this sentence. I don’t want to take this sentence,” he said. “I want to drop my plea.”

His attorney Alex Spiro said of that previous plea, “His sentence of seven years, with credit for two years already served and good time credit will hopefully permit him to be home in approximately three-and-a-half years and resume his remarkable career. This plea also covers a separate Bronx Indictment.”
