Common Approves of Chicago White Sox Fans Rooting for the Cubs

Chicago's own Common pays a visit to Late Night With Seth Meyers and says it's okay for a White Sox fan to root for the Cubs in the World Series.

You can watch the brief clip above via YouTube. Common says, "Yes. A White Sox fan has to root for the Cubs. Even though there's some hardcore White Sox fans who will not root for the Cubs and root against them ... I'm bridging this gap. I'm about unity, and I'm from Chicago. I want to see the Cubs wins. 100 years! Come on." The Black America Again rapper continues, saying, "Even with [Steve] Bartman. It'd be nice to see him redeemed."

The Cubs just battled back from a 3-1 deficit against the Indians to tie the series at 3-3 after last night's 9-3 shellacking. Game 7 is slated for Wednesday night (Nov. 2) at 8 p.m. Eastern at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. There's a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to being a White Sox fan or a Cubs fan. The difference is much more complex than the North Side (Cubs) versus the South Side (White Sox). As a result, Common's opinion is interesting, and it'll surely piss off a few die-hard White Sox fans.

In the interview with Seth Meyers, Common also discusses his time as a ballboy for the Chicago Bulls. He says he started when Michael Jordan got drafted in 1984, which is pretty incredible. Common explains that the job was pretty dope - he got to meet players and be on TV, but at the same time, he was still picking up jockstraps. He got free shoes from Hall-of-Famers like Isiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and MJ himself. Common says he used the kicks to barter with his teachers when he got trouble in school. "I really got saved in a lot of classes because of those shoes," he says.
