Nearly two weeks ago (Aug. 26), De La Soul made its triumphant return to hip-hop with the album ...and the Anonymous Nobody. Now, the group's first project in 12 years hits No. 1 on the Billboard rap album chart.

The album consists of 17 tracks with guest spots including Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, Jill Scott, Roc Marciano, Estelle, Usher and Pete Rock. The project marks the second highest-grossing Kickstarter campaign ever, raking in more than $600,000 in donations from fans.

When April 29 arrived, the group announced yet another delay, writing, “The release date for this album is August 26th; you guys are gonna get this project…We’re just so happy to get you guys this music, finally. We know you’re going to enjoy it, so again, thank you for your support all the way through.” In addition, De La Soul released a three-song EP called For Your Pain & Suffering to hold fans over until the album.

In case you missed it, be sure to read XXL's review of the new De La record, which received an XL rating. Writer Riley Wallace types, "The album has stacks of chunky bass, dirty funk loops, rock, new-age and everything in between. In case you missed the details of the project’s mantra, they solely sample their records this time around — songs will touch on their past hits at points. For example, the jamming “Pain,” featuring the marijuana mayor, Snoop Dogg, stirs up memories of their classic “A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturday.” Also, “Drawn,” featuring the Swedish electronic band Little Dragon, instantly calls to mind “4 More” featuring Zhané."
