From ‘Empire’ to ‘White Famous': The Hottest TV Shows for Fall 2017

Tracy Morgan is back with his new comedy series The Last O.G. where he plays an ex-con who returns home from prison to find his hometown Brooklyn neighborhood gentrified.  To make the transition even more odd, his former girlfriend, played by Tiffany Haddish, is raising his twin sons who he never knew existed with her new (white) husband! The show, which also stars Cedric The Entertainer premieres October 24th at 10pm ET on TBS.

ABC's highly-rated show premiered its fourth season on Tuesday October 3rd. Created by Kenya Barris, starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, the show opened it's new season with a controversial "Juneteenth" episode and welcomed the new Baby Devante to the family. This season, Ross' character, Bow, is battling postpartum depression as the show continues to explore taboo topics that are usually avoided in Black comedy. Sounds like this season is not one to miss!  black-ish airs every Tuesday at 9pm PT on ABC.

Snoop Dogg is putting the "pot" back in jackpot with his new show The Joker’s Wild, a rehash of the 70s hit which was the rapper's favorite game show as a kid. The new version will feature a gigantic slot machine, giant dice and playing cards with a Snoop-a-fied touch. Get ready to see familiar faces like Wiz Khalifa, Karrueche Tran, and Seth Rogen. The show will debut on TBS at 10pm ET, October 24 followed by the premiere of Drop the Mic, a new battle rap show hosted by Method Man featuring celebrities from sports, music, and pop culture.

So it's not a new show, but you should still be watching on Wednesdays!  Empire is in its fourth season and is still holding strong with all the delicious drama that it started from day one starring Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard. The woman we all know as sweet Clair Huxtable, Phylicia Rashad, has ironically garnered several enemies as the matriarch villain of the show who is dangerously shaking things up for the Lyons. Catch Empire every Wednesday at 8/7c on FOX.

Jamie Foxx is bringing us a new comedy this month starring Jay Pharoah, premiering on Showtime. Loosely based on Foxx's life, the series centers around a young Black comedian and rising star who is trying to maintain his street cred as he crosses over into the hollywood main stream of becoming White Famous. With Pharoah having sharpened his skills during 6 years of SNL, and Foxx backing him up as a recurring character, the show should deliver more than enough laughs to your fall line-up. White Famous premieres on October 15th at 9pm PT on Showtime.

We see more dead people! The zombie apocalypse continues for its 8th season on AMC with The Walking Dead.  Up until now, Rick and select members of the group have managed to survive the flesh eating walkers, but now, survival won't be enough. They'll have to fight back, get their freedom, and rebuild civilization in order to live. The first episode of The Walking Dead season 8, which also happens to be the show's 100th episode, premieres on October 22nd on AMC.

BET's new show, The Comedy Get Down, features the late great Charlie Murphy alongside Cedric the Entertainer, George Lopez, D.L. Hughley, and Eddie Griffin. It's the first scripted series of its kind to show what really happens behind the scenes of a stand-up comedy tour where legendary comedians deal with everyday woes of life on the road including angry wives, crazy groupies, and bougie celebrities. The Comedy Get Down premieres on October 12th at 11:30pm PT on BET.

Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka'Oir are jumping the broom and BET has all the juicy twists and turns leading up to the big day of the hip-hop celebrity couple.  With Gucci being one of the street kings of rap and soon releasing an autobiography while Keyshia reigns as Queen of Instagram with beauty and fitness product lines, the two love birds are anticipating a royal wedding. The ceremony will be held in Miami at the Four Seasons and will be broadcast live on BET, kicking off the premiere season, on October 17th.

The second half of the 2nd season of Queen Sugar just kicked off on October 3rd with a two-night special.  The popular drama series from Ava DuVernay centers around a group of siblings who are brought closer by a tragic event in their family. The critically acclaimed show promises not to disappoint and has been ordered for a third season by the Oprah Winfrey Network. Catch Queen Sugar every Wednesday at 10 PM ET/PT on OWN.

Hip-hop producer Irv Gotti is bringing us music in a whole new way.  BET's Tales is an innovative show that takes the lyrics from classic and modern hip-hop songs and films them as short stories. Hits like Notorious B.I.G.'s "I Got a Story to Tell," and "Trap Queen" by Fetty Wap have been featured on the show so far, with new stars each episode including Boris Kodjoe, MC Lyte, and Jermaine Dupri. The new season of Tales airs on October 10th at 10/9c on BET.

Russell Simmons returns with All Def Comedy, hosted by Tony Rock.  The revival of the popular 90s stand-up special will continue to feature uncensored performances by the funniest up and coming comedians as well as veterans in the game.  Def Comedy Jam launched careers of iconic comedians like Bernie Mac, Dave Chappelle, Chris Tucker, and Martin Lawrence when it originally aired on HBO in 1992.  Tune in to HBO on November 12th at 10pm to see the next generation of comedic heroes take the stage.

Spike Lee's She’s Gotta Have It series adaptation of his 1986 debut film is coming to Netflix. The show is centered around a Brooklyn-based artist who is dividing her time between three lovers in a 10 episode series, all directed by Lee. The show will launch this Thanksgiving Day (November 23).
