Gospel singer and church pastor Kim Burrell has come under fire over remarks she made in her sermon at a Houston church about homosexuality. In a viral video above, the 44-year-old singer is speaking to her congregation about sin and referred to gays and lesbians as perverted.

Burrell alludes that homosexuality is a perversion and it’s confusing both men and women. She even suggest that Eddie Long’s illness is a direct result of his alleged sexual liaisons with gay men.

“That perverted homosexual spirit, is a spirit of delusion and confusion and has deceived many men and women,” she said. “The homosexual spirit is angry and comes up against ya, ‘You gotta love everybody."

Burrell's sermon didn't sit well with many people in the LGBT community and they royally dragged her on Twitter.

"Kim Burrell's Christianity is the kind that kills you slowly and tells you it's your own fault that you're dying. That killing you is mercy," wrote one person. Another commenter tweeted, "I cannot believe that Kim Burrell - shaped like the podium she was standing behind - had the gall to spew that ignorant, violent nonsense."

Burrell's sermon also contradicts her own actions having appeared on Frank Ocean's latest album Blonde on the spiritual "Godspeed." Ocean as identified himself as a gay man. In addition, Burrell is scheduled to appear on the Ellen show next week to perform a song from the Hidden Figures movie. Host Ellen Degeneres is gay and has been happily married to her wife, Portia di Rossi, for eight years. So Burrell's rant is not only troubling but also very bad timing.

Burrell has since apologized on Facebook Live, but it looks like the damage has been done. This is not a good look for the beloved gospel singer.
