Little Caesars Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Pistons, has received the highest level of protection awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The certification stems from the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act (SAFETY) encourages anti-terrorism technologies and practices.

Olympia Entertainment says the SAFETY Act Certification includes Little Caesars Arena and the 100-foot perimeter around the arena, the parking deck, office buildings on Henry and Woodward, the Via and the Chevrolet Plaza. It also involves security design, management and continuing work by employees, contractors, and consultants. The certification will expire on December 31, 2022.

Homeland Security says, "the Act creates certain liability limitations for 'claims arising out of, relating to, or resulting from an Act of Terrorism.'"

Detroit's Comerica Park earned SAFETY Act Certification in 2015.
