The Democrats have been getting all kinds of hip-hop help this election year, and past election years for that matter. The latest rapper to lend a helping hand is MC Hammer, who appears in an ad for California State Senate hopeful Scott Wiener.

Hammer appears in the ad alongside, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Jaleel White and Barney Frank. Featuring a song titled, "Hip to Be Square," the five celebrities lament on Wiener's ability to be cool despite his L 7 looks. The video takes place in various locations throughout San Francisco.

MCs have definitely been getting folks to rock the vote. Back in July, Snoop Dogg performed at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia’s Electric Factory.

Two weeks ago, Pusha T hosted a block party in support of Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine in Miami. The two had an open conversation on social issues.

“My biggest concern is the criminal justice system. We’re definitely on the same page in regards to knowing that it’s flawed and needs to be fixed,” the Virginia rapper asked.

Kaine responded, “We have communities where everybody respects the law, but everybody needs to be respected by the law too. That’s really important. In some of our communities that’s not the case. We can also keep better data about the number of citizens that are killed in interactions with police.”

Just last week, Jay Z announced he will have a free concert in Ohio, in conjunction with the Hilary Clinton campaign, aimed at getting young Black voters out to the polls.
