Method Man is expanding his acting resume, as he preps to join the cast of Shaft.

The original 70s film got a reboot in 2000, with Samuel L. Jackson taking over the role of a tough detective originally played by Richard Roundtree. That film was directed by John Singleton. Now, Jackson is reprising the role, with Jessie T. Usher being added to the cast as Shaft's son, who ends up not only reuniting with his dad, but teaming up with him.

Regina Hall  Alexandra Shipp and Richard Roundtree also star in the upcoming film. As for Meth, he'll play an old friend of Shaft's from the neighborhood.

So far, all things are pointing up for this new version of the film, as it has some power players behind the scene. This go around, Tim Story (Barbershop, Think Like a Man) is directing, and Kenya Barris of Black-Ish wrote the script, along with Alex Barnow.

Method Man has been showing a penchant for Hollywood lately. Earlier this year, he also starred in the HBO series, The Deucealongside James Franco.

The new Shaft film is set to be released on June 14, 2019.
