Michigan State was scheduled to play their final regular season game Saturday night against Maryland, but the game has been cancelled.

Maryland announced Thursday evening that they were forced to cancel the game due to Covid guidelines. This game was actually a makeup date from the first time MSU and Maryland were supposed to play in November. The Terps were forced to cancel that game for the same reasons. The game on Saturday was the last regular season game for both schools and will not be made up.

This is obviously a disappointing end to a rough season overall for both programs. The Spartans join Michigan in having their last game of the season cancelled. They both also posted losing records during the shortened season.

Michigan State finished the season at 2-5 with two straight losses to end the season. Everyone knew this would be a rough year for Sparty with a new coach, and a lot of player turnover. Things are looking up for Michigan State though after they had a very good recruiting class, and another year for Coach Tucker to build his program.

There was an outside chance that Michigan State could play one more game, but it looks like that won't happen now. Coach Tucker talked about the chance of picking up another game.

If we were asked to play, I would love to play, I want to practice, want to compete, get more practice time with our guys and keep developing our guys and just seeing how far we can take this team and what this team can become before we turn the page to our offseason conditioning program leading up to spring ball

For now, it looks like the Spartan's season is over but we'll keep you updated if they do get a call from a team willing to play.
