Federal guidelines specify that public schools they must allow students to use bathrooms based on their gender identity, with the threat of losing federal education funding if they don't comply, according to WOOD. The Education and Justice Departments threatened a loss of federal education dollars if schools refused. On September 14th, the State's guidelines will go before the Board of Education for discussion and a possible vote.
