Michigan Woman Redecorates Her Home Using Stuff She Stole From A Cemetery

I'll admit, I'm not going to win any home design contests anytime soon. My house is decorated in a style I call 'old Dutch woman circa 1984', but at least I didn't steal my style from a dead person.

Lisa Corcoran from Vienna Township near Flint was arraigned this week on larceny charges after authorities found stuff stolen from the graves of the dearly departed.

The 188 items in her possession included flowers and a home made bench worth over $500 taken from not one, but two local graveyards.

The sad part comes from this description of the bench:

"lovingly crafted from 3,000 tile pieces by a grieving mother to memorialize a daughter whose life was cut short after a decade-long battle with ovarian cancer"

Mitchell Neeley, who lost his wife to a heart attack, placed several items from the couple's wedding on her grave. Corcoran swiped those, too. 

“To have this happen,” he told WNEM, “it was reopening those same wounds all over again.”

The photo is from West Vienna Cemetery, where some of the items were stolen from.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Department say they were tipped off when someone reported seeing Corcoran's car leaving a cemetery full of flowers.

Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell described the thefts Thursday to the Detroit Free Press as a “new low” and said “to steal from the dead is an unimaginable act that defies description.”
