Miguel addresses the issue of immigration detention centers in his socially-conscious video for “Now.”

The clips centers on the Adelanto High Desert Detention Center where there are nearly 2,000 federal immigration detainees of Mexican and Haitian descent. Last year, Miguel performed for the neighboring community as well as talked with people who have been affected by the immigration policies.

"To see innocent people being ripped from their way of life to essentially be incarcerated and used as cheap labor is really crazy to me," said Miguel about the immigration prisons (via Rolling Stone).

The R&B singer cites music icons Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Prince for his political awakening.

"They all cared. It's a human thing," he said. "They all pushed the boundaries in their own way. They all challenged us to look at things a different way. I saw that from the artists I love, and I decided I want to do that. To be an artist is to deal with what's happening in your time."

Miguel just released his new 12-track album, War & Leisure. The singer has dropped a number of singles and videos leading up to the project, including "Pineapple Skies" and "Told You So."
