Are you someone who loves taking your dog for car rides? The way they ride with you may soon change in Michigan.

MLive reports that a proposed bill would ban dogs sitting on a driver's lap. House Bill No. 5277 states:

AN INDIVIDUAL SHALL NOT OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE WHILE A DOG IS SITTING IN HIS OR HER LAP, UNLESS THE DOG IS SITTING IN HIS OR HER LAP FOR A MEDICAL PURPOSE UNDER THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT OF 1990.

If someone disobeys the law then they would receive a $100 fine. A second offense will result in a $200 fine.

The Detroit Representative who introduced the bill said this is about safety and having a dog on your lap counts as "distracted driving." MLive says the bill is now headed to House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for review.

According to JustPark.com, currently there are only two states (Hawaii and New Jersey) who have a ban on driving with a dog in your lap.

Do you agree with this potential law?
