From her days on the TV show 227, to drinking 40s with Ice Cube in the film Boyz in the Hood, to winning an Emmy for her role on ABC's American Crime, Regina King's career couldn't be any more impressive.

Now the 46-year-old is teaming up with famed director John Ridley to produce a drama series called No Place Safe about the Atlanta child murders, and she'll also be taking on the lead role.

The Atlanta child murders gripped much of the U.S. from 1979 to1981, and during that time close to 30 black children and young adults were killed. The person guilty of the heinous crimes is a man named Wayne Williams, who was eventually sentenced to two consecutive life terms, although he was never tried for the child murders.

“It’s been a really, really good partnership. They’ve been amazingly supportive. They’ve given me a lot of latitude,” Ridley said of the series and partnership with ABC in a recent cover story with Variety. “They’ve been great about saying, ‘If that’s what you’re really passionate about, how can we support it?'”

No word yet on when the series will air.
