The Weeknd had the type of year that a lot of artists would sell their souls for. After dropping his sophomore studio album Beauty Behind the Madness last August, Abel sold over two million records and has taken home a trophy case full of awards. Now it's time to try to do it all again with his new project Starboy. The Canadian crooner provided some push for the project performing the title track and "False Alarm" for a national audience on Saturday Night Live, yesterday (Oct. 1).

He first appeared on the stage performing the Daft Punk-assisted "Starboy," a subdued yet uptempo track, rocking a black varsity jacket and his new haircut (above).

For his follow up, he returned with "False Alarm" (below) which sounds like a newfangled rendition of BBD's "Poison" in content. He also made a major announcement on a segment called The Weeknd Update (below).

The Weeknd has become a regular on SNL at this point having performed on the show numerous times in the last couple of years. Back in 2014 he performed "Love Me Harder" alongside Ariana Grande.

Last October, he and Nicki Minaj graced the SNL stage and performed "The Hills (Remix)" backed by a live band and a rose-colored light show.

Back in March, he and Future joined forces and performed "Low Life" off Hendrix's EVOL album.

With just under two months before the release of Starboy little is known about the project which is set to drop on Nov. 25. He released the video for "Starboy" earlier this week. With Grant Singer directing, Julien LeMaitre and Nina Soriano producing, and Weeknd starring, what results is one of 2016’s most striking music videos.
