WOODTV reports that a new car dealership that was set for their grand opening this weekend is now suffering major losses as seventeen of their vehicles were stolen off their lot last night during the overnight hours.

Thieves broke into the dealership offices by throwing rocks through the windows, where they then stole the keys to all sixty vehicles on the lot and taking seventeen of the vehicles, amounting to a loss of over $300,000, according to WOODTV.

The dealership, Autowest of Grand Rapids, located on 28th Street, says the security system they have wasn't recording because of a malfunction in their systems wifi. The WOODTV story also says the owner of Autowest is now worried that the thieves will be back to take the remaining inventory.

Grand Rapids has had a problem with dealerships being hit by car theft, MLive reported back on June 24th that more than 36 vehicles had been stolen just during the month of June 2020.

Police are still looking for leads on the Autowest of Grand Rapids robbery.  IF you have any information you can call the GRPD at (616) 456-3400 or anonymously through Silent Observer.
