2Pac Returns to the Top 40 After More Than 10 Years
Propelled by the success of the biopic, All Eyez On Me, 2Pac has returned to the Top 40 on the Billboard 200 for the first time in more than a decade.
Sure, the film was lackluster and met with lukewarm reviews, at best, but the spotlight on Pac's work has people revisiting his catalog. Sales for his Greatest Hits album were up 101 percent, landing him in the Top 40, according to Billboard. Pac last hit the top 40 back in 2006 with the release of one of many posthumous albums, Pac Life. The record debuted at No. 9 and fell to No. 30 in its second week.
While it's good news that Pac's sales are up, this week saw more controversy for the late hip-hop legend, when Kylie and Kendall Jenner came under fire for plastering their faces on t-shirts featuring his image. They did the same with other music icons, including The Notorious B.I.G., which almost got them cursed out by Biggie's mom, Voletta Wallace. Ms. Wallace called the act "exploitation" and had a few more choice words for the Jenners.
At any rate, Pac will be in the news even more in the coming months. A&E is working on a new series about the murders of Pac and Biggie, and there's also a documentary in the works from Academy Award-winning director Steve McQueen about his life.
