Akon has been ordered to pay $165,000 in back rent, according to TMZ.

The order comes after a company that leased him space for his Aliaune Milano fashion line on the 66th floor of the Empire State Building sued the singer for stopping payment back in January 2016, leaving seven months worth of rent to be paid. Akon never responded to the suit, so a judge issued a default judgment.

Akon doesn't seem to be too worried about that money issue, however. The singer has long been an activist, dealing specifically with energy through is company Akon Lighting Africa, which aims to provide electricity to African countries He's brought solar power to more than 10 countries on the continent.

Recently, Akon wanted to apply his knowledge to hurricane ravaged Puerto Rico but was denied by the U.S. government.

We actually presented a program for Puerto Rico and we got rejected,” Akon told TMZ. “We have the solution for Puerto Rico, clearly. We would’ve had power up in less than 30 days and they rejected us.”

He says his bid was denied because of "politics, special interest and propaganda."

"They don't care about the people. If that were the case, then they would have allowed us to go in and provide the solution."
