Do you remember the hazy days that West Michigan experienced in the spring and summer of 2023?

Unfortunately, there may be a potential for a repeat situation.

Here is what is going on.

As of now, west winds are set to bring smoke from Canadian wildfires to New York.

Also, the northeast winds are bringing smoke from Central and Western Canada, where wildfires are running rampant.

 

Thankfully, there is some good news. With the smoke expected to stay high in the astrosphere, it may not be a major problem for the state.

It is expected to last until early next week.

In May of 2024, there was another moment when West Michigan could have seen effects because of the Canadian wildfires.

But, while other states such as Wisconsin and Minnesota were affected, Michigan was peacefully left alone.

Do Wildfires Happen in Michigan?

While you may not think so, Michigan has seen its fair share of wildfires. Since Michigan is home to a lot of forestry, there is a chance that some people do not listen to the burn bans in effect in certain areas.

In 2023, a wildfire burned 200 acres of forest on Michigan's Isle Royale.

Will The Canadian Wildfires Affect Michigan Again?

As of our publication date, there are no air advisory warnings in effect for West Michigan.

However, that may change as the Canadian wildfires progress.
