A new Bavarian-style beer hall and a tribute to a Grand Rapids' brewing pioneer is FINALLY set to open this week.
Cedar Springs Brewing Opens Küsterer Brauhaus on Grand Rapids' West Side
Way back in 2019 we told you that Cedar Springs Brewing Company would be opening a new location on Grand Rapids' West Side, at 634 Bridge St. NW.
Küsterer Brauhaus is named for Christoph Kusterer, a founding father of the Grand Rapids' beer industry.
According to Cedar Springs Brewing Company's website,
Christoph Küsterer was the original German brewer in the Grand River Valley and Kent County. Arriving around 1844, his family’s brewing history lasted nearly a century. We’re proud to pay tribute to his legacy as the region’s first craft brewery focused on German styles.
They'd originally planned to open Küsterer Brauhaus in 2020... then of course, the pandemic happened.
Well, it's opening this week!
Kusterer Brauhaus Grand Opening August 16, 2022
Küsterer Brauhaus held a soft opening this past weekend and is officially opening to the public Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 3p.m.
Owners say they'll be posting daily business hours soon.
Food and Drink at Küsterer Brauhaus
Küsterer Brauhaus is a bierhall, small winery, distiller tasting room, and deli.
The beers are are brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot (German Beer Purity Law) and contain only water, malt, hops and yeast.
Owners say,
We’ve traveled the world and spent years researching Bavarian, German, Bohemian and American brewing traditions as these styles have been enjoyed for hundreds of years.
Beers include:
- Küsterer Original Weißbier - A traditional wheat beer, deep auburn in color, with a rich body accented by hints of almond and nuts and a refreshing finish.
- Küsterer Weizenbock - Traditional Bavarian wheat bock, full flavored, rich with roasted malts and carries a winter warming kick, rounded out with estery nuances and hints of ripe fruit and a clean finish.
- Küsterer Bohemian Pils - Cellar-style (unfiltered) pils with a soft, herbal nose, clean body and a crisp finish.
- Küsterer Salzburger Märzen - Traditional deep copper lager, its rich, malty body is complimented by soft caramel notes and a clean, refreshing finish.
You can check out the full beer list here.
A deli menu has not been shared yet, however, owners say the deli items will change daily and will be written on a chalkboard at the new brewery.
