Officials at Boyne Mountain say that the incident happened Saturday (1/14) at about 5 pm. The child was riding with family members when the fall occurred. According to the Petoskey News Review, the family was riding a chairlift known as the Boyneland, which serves beginner runs.

Child Admitted to the Hospital

Officials with the resort say the child was wearing a helmet at the time of the fall and the child was immediately transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey and then transferred to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grad Rapids.

The identity of the child has not been revealed in order to protect the family's privacy. As of this publication, the condition of the child is unknown.

Inspection Reveals Everything in Good Working Condition

Jason Perl is the general manager of Boyne Mountain Resort.

“This was a scary incident for all involved,” Perl said. “We have been in regular contact with the family and our thoughts will remain with them as this child recovers. The safety of our guests is a top concern and we’re grateful that a helmet was being worn.”

Boyne Mountain Personnel have since inspected the chairlift and the restraint bar and have confirmed that everything is in good working order.
