With the snow that just happened and with more likely coming our way, I felt the need to send out this reminder.

Before you get into your car and drive, PLEASE clear your car off!

Here is why.

Why Is It Illegal To Not Clean Snow Off Your Car?

Michigan law states that you must remove snow and ice from your car before you even think about driving your vehicle.

"A person shall not deposit, or cause to be deposited, snow, ice or slush on any roadway or highway."

Michigan is actually one of 11 states that have this law. This includes headlights, taillights, brake lights, and all exterior lights.

If the snow or ice falls off your car, it could hit and damage another vehicle that is behind you.

Do not become an inconvenience for another person because you are too lazy to clean your car off.

Plus, if you choose to not clean the snow off of your vehicle, you can be fined up to $100 per offense.

Have fun shelling out money to the state!

Auto No Fault Law also agrees,

"If you drive a vehicle in the snow without adhering to the laws, you can be pulled over and ticketed by law enforcement. So, to avoid a citation and an encounter with police the next time you’re driving in Michigan’s wintry weather, remember to remove the ice and snow from your vehicle."

Again, before the next big snowstorm comes, make sure you have all of the tools you need to scrape the snow off your car before you drive.
