Looking for a new furry family member? This Saturday you could adopt a new companion and help Clear the Shelters!

Clear The Shelters™ is a nationwide pet adoption campaign that is spearheaded by NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations, a division of NBCUniversal. Locally WOOD TV-8 is helping to promote the event.

The event has been running the entire month of August./ There is also a one day event planned for this Saturday, August 29th.

The WOOD TV-8 website explains that "New this year, shelters and rescues will have the added bonus of not having to reduce adoption rates. If pet lovers are unable to adopt a pet, the campaign will showcase the benefit of donating to shelters and rescues that have been hit hard by COVID-19 by partnering with GreaterGood.org to make donating easier than ever before. Donations are also accepted through Clear the Shelters Fund for the animal shelter of your choice."

Shelters that are participating in West Michigan include:

Harbor Humane Society in West Olive

Saved by Zade in Lansing

Adoptable pets are also viewable on the WeRescue App, a free iOS app. Use the search filter "Clear the Shelters".

Nationally, over 51,000 pets have been adopted so far in 2020 through the Clear the Shelters program. More than 460,000 pets have found their forever homes since 2015.
