“Too Big To Ride?” Detroit Rapper Calls Out Lyft For Weight Discrimination
All this woman wanted to do was take a Lyft ride to support the Detroit Lions.
In one crazy encounter, her life was changed due to prejudice and biases.
Dank Demoss VS Lyft
Detroit rapper and social media influencer Dajua Blanding, better known as Dank Demoss, is making headlines after a Lyft driver refused to give her a ride due to her size.
Now, she’s taking legal action, calling out what she believes is blatant discrimination. (As you should!)
The incident took place earlier this month when Demoss was on her way to a Detroit Lions watch party. Excited about the event, she ordered a Lyft as anyone normally would. But when the driver arrived, the situation took a ridiculously shocking turn.
According to Demoss, the driver took one look at her and immediately stated that he could not give her a ride because of her weight. Thinking quickly on her feet, she captured the moment on video, which has quickly gone viral online.

Initially, the driver claimed that Demoss simply wouldn’t fit in his car, a statement she immediately challenged. “I can fit in this car,” she responded, only for the driver to insist, “Believe me, you can’t.” He then shifted his reasoning, saying that his tires could not possibly support her weight. He ultimately suggested that she order an Uber XL for more space and offered to refund her ride.
Feeling humiliated and wronged as anyone would, Demoss has since retained attorneys Jonathan Marko and Zach Runyan to sue Lyft for discrimination.
Attorney Marko emphasized that weight is a protected characteristic in Michigan, making the driver’s actions unlawful. “Denying someone a ride based on their weight is just as wrong as denying them based on race or religion,” Marko stated.
Lyft responded to the controversy with a statement condemning discrimination.
“Lyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination—we believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness,” a company spokesperson said. They also reiterated that their policies strictly prohibit harassment or discrimination.
While the lawsuit continues to unfold, the situation has sparked an important conversation about discrimination against plus-sized individuals across the country, including in the Mitten State.
As someone who has built a platform advocating for body positivity and inclusivity, Demoss is determined to hold companies accountable.
This case is more than just about a single ride—it’s about making sure everyone, regardless of size, receives fair and equal treatment.
