What is Peeps?

Peeps are those marshmallow chickens we have seen since we were kids around Easter. I can remember when there were only yellow ones. Now when you go to the store there are several different colors, shapes, and new flavors. It's the Easter candy you either love or hate. My sister loved them, I personally can not stand them.

Who Invented Peeps?

A Ukrainian immigrant by the name of Sam Born made the first marshmallow treats. The original ones were all actually handmade. It wasn't until 1953 before the Just Born candy company started mass-producing the chicks.

When Did Other Colors of Peeps Begin?

It wasn't until 1995 that lavender-colored peeps started being produced. Blue peeps came along in 1998. Before that, the only ones you could get were yellow, pink, and white.

When Did Peeps Begin Making New Flavors?

Peeps began making new flavors like chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla between 1999 and 2000.

Peep Are Not Just Easter Candy Anymore

Peeps used to be an Easter-only candy but starting in 2004 they moved into Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day as well.

Peeps Used In Recipes

Peeps have been used for smores, in pancakes, chocolate-covered, marshmallow chocolate chip cookies, brownies, popcorn, frosting, Rice Krispie treats, and even syrup.

There's even a tale of Peeps that was used as a topping on pizza.
