DNR to Market Michigan’s Great Outdoors
The Department of Natural Resources want to get the word out nationally about Michigan and what its great outdoors has to offer.
According to MLive, the DNR are looking to join a group of states in creating awareness campaigns involving the social and public health benefits of being outdoors.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said, "From the Great Lakes to our expansive forest lands to a vast network of trails, Michigan boasts unparalleled natural resources and countless opportunities for outdoor recreation."
Whitmer will be signing the state in the Confluence Accords in October. The Confluence Accords and a group of states that promote outdoor recreating industry. Basically, they want more hunters, fishermen, hikers, campers, boaters, etc to come spend money in Michigan and they want to advertise in other states to do so.
In order for the state to be involved they had to create a new Office of Outdoor Recreation industry that will represent Carhartt, Crystal Mountain Resort, Gazelle Sports and many more.
The director of Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry, Brad Garmon said, "Historically, Michigan has been a national leader in conservation and recreation issues. Now it's time to apply that tradition of national leadership to the outdoor recreation economy. Michigan has several major outdoor vehicle, gear and apparel manufactures headquartered right here that need workers, and lots of small or startup businesses in his space that are positioned to grow. This office will help make that recruitment and growth happen."
Michigan will be partnering with several states including Colorado, Montana, North Carolina, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Washington and Wyoming with Maine possibly joining the Confluence Accords in October also.
Hopefully this helps Michigan's outdoors and is just not another way for big money to find a way to ruin it.
