Doughboy Roc Shot and Killed in Detroit, Big Sean Pays Tribute

Rapper Doughboy Roc was shot and killed in his hometown of Detroit on Monday (Oct. 9), reports Detroit Free Press.

According to authorities, Roc was shot to death at 3:30 p.m. while he was sitting in his white Hyundai on the west side of Detroit. The victim was shot in the right ear and right shoulder and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have no suspect or motive in the case.

Fellow Detroit MC Big Sean went on his Twitter account to send his condolences to the victim’s family and friends. "RIP Doughboy Roc. Bless his Soul, his family n Doughboyz Cashout. We gotta do better," he tweeted.

Jerry Production, a Detroit-based videographer, who shot many of Roc's music videos, also paid a tribute with a video memorializing the late rapper, who he said treated him like a little brother.

Doughboy Roc, whose real name is Rodney Yeargin, was a member of the Doughboyz Cashout crew, which formed in 2006. In 2013, the group signed with Jeezy's CTE World label but nothing came to fruition.

According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Roc was on probation until 2021 on a 2010 conviction for felony firearms. He went to prison in 2011 and was released two years later.

Despite his legal problems, Roc stayed focused on his rap career. In 2013, he dropped his Ghetto Testimony project followed by Beastmode in 2014 and Loyalty is Everything in 2016. In September, Roc released the solo album Roc Vs Balboa.
