Emergency Alert System Test on Wednesday
This is only a test and it will be on Wednesday August 7 on Television and radio sometime in the afternoon but it will only be a test.
According to WZZM, FEMA will be running a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System. It is similar to the monthly test but this one is nationwide and will run on cable, satellite, TV and good ol' radio. The test will run at 2:20 p.m. but if for some reason the test is not run it will be rescheduled for August 21.
So when you hear the sirens there is no need for alarm because its only a test.
The test is a minute long and the EAS message will be:
THIS IS A TEST of the National Emergency Alert System. This system was developed by broadcast and cable operators in voluntary cooperation with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Communication Commission, and local authorities to keep you informed in the event of an emergency. If this had been an actual emergency an official message would have followed the tone alert, you heard at the start of this message. No action is required.
This is just a test and the Kent County Sheriffs Department says no action is needed from the public. Cellphones and other wireless devices will not be tested during this particular test.
