Frank Ocean Explains His Lyrics on Calvin Harris and Migos Collab “Slide”
Calvin Harris' new Frank Ocean and Migos collab, "Slide" dropped a couple days ago, and it's already doing numbers. Within an hour of its release, the song shot up to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard and Twitter Trending 140 charts. Now Ocean has teamed up with Genius to break down the meaning of the uptempo dance track.
On the intro of the single, Frank sings, "I might/Empty my bank account/And buy that boy with a pipe/Buy that boy with a pipe/I might, I might/Empty my bank account/And buy that boy with a pipe/Buy that boy with a pipe/I might."
The Blonde crooner explains that he is actually talking about a painting. Pablo Picasso painted “Boy With a Pipe” in 1905. The image shows a boy holding a pipe in his left hand and sold for a whopping $104.2 million in 2004.
Migos' Quavo even touches on the artsy aspect in his verse, spitting, “Walk in my mansion, $20,000 painting, Picasso.”
After putting out his chart-topping 2016 album, Blonde, Frank is already on to the next one. Singer John Mayer has heard some of Ocean's new stuff and he says it's on a different wave. "He played me this song the other day," explained Mayer. "I won’t say the title, that’s his business, but… He’s doing stuff right now that’s… talk about space reggae, future reggae, that’s Frank Ocean."
Hopefully, we won't have to wait for it as long as we did for Blonde.
