The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is sending out a warning to people that their fruit could be one of the ones on the recall list.

This effects

  • 1,727 cartons of Fresh Peaches
  • 1,207 cartons of Fresh Nectarines and
  • 365 cartons of Fresh Plums

The fruit could possibly be contaminated with listeria after a routine sampling found the bacteria. All distribution has been seized until the source of the problem is discovered. No illnesses have been reported thus far.

These fruits were sold at Walmart, Aldi and Costco (and other small retailers) in 18 states including Michigan. People who purchased the fresh peaches, nectarines and/or plums are asked to return them for a refund.

Listeria is a food borne bacteria which especially effects young children, the elderly, pregnant woman, or anyone with a weak immune system. According to the FDA, listeria causes

...short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea...
