Funkmaster Flex Inducted Into Bronx Walk of Fame
This past weekend, the legendary Funkmaster Flex received a hero's tribute at the 46th Annual Bronx Week Parade, being voted into the hallowed grounds of the Bronx Walk of Fame. Orange Is the New Black star Selenis Leyva, medical inventor Dr. Manny Villafaña, and Latin music star Prince Royce also joined him as fellow Bronx natives in this year's class of inductees.
Attended by hundreds of students from schools in the Bronx and curated by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., the event saw Flex and his fellow inductees walk down the borough's Mosholu Parkway after seeing street names with their names on them on the Grand Concourse.
After the parade, rap legends like Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick popped up to perform, as did Latin freestyle stars like TKA and Salseros Los Adolescentes. Clearly, a lot of dope stuff took place.
“There is never a wrong time to celebrate The Bronx, but we always turn up the volume on our borough pride during Bronx Week,” Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said of the event where Flex had his name immortalized. “Bronx Week 2017 was a huge success, and I was honored to once again be part of this very special annual tradition. I can’t wait for Bronx Week 2018!”
Having his own street name is definitely a well-deserved tribute to Flex, who's been a Bronx fixture and rap game luminary for more than two decades now. Salute to Flex and shout out to the BX for recognizing a legend.
