Both Governor Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel have signed group letters to Congress for them to open banking up to the Marijuana industry, according to Fox 17.

Fox 17 says Nessel joined 33 other attorney general last month and Governor Whitmer joined 18 other governors on Friday asking congress to change US Banking rules to allow money from marijuana businesses, which right now, because the federal government says marijuana is illegal, most banks won’t accept any of the money, which is a problem in states like Michigan, who have legalized both medical and recreational marijuana use.

The letter from the 18 governors, which was sent to congress, was released yesterday and says they’re asking for the change because the cash only environment creates a real danger for business owners, customers and the community at large.  Fox 17 says the letter also states it’s a burden on the local governments who are trying to tax the industry.
