We are in the middle of "cuffing season", right? If you're not familiar with the term, basically it's when the weather gets colder and we start to look around for someone to hook-up with to pass the bleak winter months...

Relatable for Michiganders, I'd say.

Well whether you're looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right Now - or for something more long term - Wallethub says Grand Rapids is an ideal place to be!

How Wallethub Scored Each City For Singles

To determine their ranking of 2021's Best & Worst Cities for Singles, the finance website compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 32 key indicators of dating-friendliness.

To figure out where singles have the highest chance of finding love, Wallethub used 3 key metrics:

  • Economics (costs of things to do, income, employment rates)
  • Fun & Recreation (number of attractions, nightlife, restaurants, social clubs, safety)
  • Dating Opportunities (number of single people, male to female ratio, online dating)

The Best City for Singles in The U.S.

The best city for singles? It IS in the midwest, but it isn't in Michigan...

According to Wallethub, Madison, Wisconsin, is the place to be for single folks. It's pretty high up there in fun date activities, coming in at No. 20, and apparently is bursting with dating opportunities, ranked at No. 2.

And if you're looking for love, don't head to Glendale, California, which is ranked the WORST spot for singles. While it's not not too bad in terms of things to do, apparently those things are pretty pricey, and the number of potential mates is SUPER low.

Where Grand Rapids Ranks for Single People

As far as Grand Rapids, it's ranked as the No. 24 best city for singles.

Not too shabby!

GR scored pretty well in all of the key factors: 51 in Economics, 39 in Fun, and 46 in Dating Opportunities. As a person who was once single in GR, and who met my husband online, I'd say that fits with my experience. There is lots to do and lots of fun people to hang out with!

The only other Michigan city in the ranking didn't do so hot... Detroit came in at No. 140 on Wallethub's list. While Motor City has the second highest percentage of singles, it apparently has the fewest online-dating opportunities.
