If you love the outdoors, here's your chance to get paid being a Michigan conservation officer.

Michigan has a vast amount of parks, state and federal land and that means the state can always use a few good men and women to take on duties as a conservation officer for the Department of Natural Resources.

According to the DNR's website, they are now accepting candidates to join the conservation officer academy for the spring of 2021. This isn't bad is you are looking for a quick way to begin working for the state. Cadets who are successful at the academy will graduate in the fall of the same year.

If you already have a background in law enforcement you can move through much quicker with their hybrid academy.

If you don't have a law enforcement background then you will need to fulfill the MCOLES basic training requirements to earn your law enforcement license that will lead to becoming a conservation officer.

The 2021 training sites are in Roscommon, Gaylord and Dimondale. Some of the schoolwork training will be done virtually to keep a safe working environment and to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

You do not need prior law enforcement training, you don't need to know how to fish or hunt or even have a college education. Just a willingness to learn.

There are physical and mental challenges but if you are looking at a rewarding career this is a great opportunity. While in the academy you become a State of Michigan employee and earn a paycheck, receive benefits and even has cash diverted for your retirement. Not a bad way to learn but get paid at the same time.
