I don't mean to be so dramatic but at the same time, I do because I want you to know that this can happen to anyone, anywhere and it's SCARY!

The best way I can describe what I felt was 0 to 100. One minute I'm fine and aware and the next complete blackout. This was not because I drank too much, because I didn't. I know my body and I know my limits and after talking to my friends (that I was with) the next day... there's no question that I got roofied/spiked/drugged or whatever you choose to call it. Googling "signs you were roofied" also confirmed it for me. Some of these signs include:

  • You feel drunk without drinking -- or WAY more drunk than you should
  • Wake up feeling hungover
  • No memory for a certain period of time
  • Nausea

Yes, you can feel all of these things with alcohol on its own but, again, YOU KNOW YOU! This article also explains the differences and effects between the different date-rape drugs.

The video I made breaks it all down but basically I was out at a bar in Grand Rapids that I've been to numerous times so I didn't think anything shady was going to happen. I trust the bartenders, the waitstaff and I'm on a first-name basis with the waitress we had so I didn't for one second question anything. I truly believe this was an unfortunate situation that some sick person took advantage of. I thank God that nothing serious ended up happening and that I have friends who care about me, otherwise things could've taken a different turn.

With that said... let this be a reminder to be aware, be mindful, always watch your drink, and always surround yourself with people you trust. This can happen anywhere and it can happen to you, too.

If you rather be safe than sorry, check out the SipChip which can detect if something has been slipped into your drink. You put a drop of your drink into it and within seconds it'll tell you if your drink has been spiked. With a 99.1% effective rate... it's definitely worth looking into.
