A student who attended an event on Central Michigan University's campus Wednesday night was shocked when she pulled a Valentine out of her goodie bag and read the message on it.

The card displayed a photo of Adolf Hitler along with the message, "my love 4 u burns like 6,000 Jews".

Madison Rodriguez, a student who was attending the event being held by the College Republicans at Central Michigan University, posted a photo of the valentine to Facebook along with the message "Hey @ College Republicans at CMU, wanna talk about this anti-semitic "Valentine" you passed out today?"

The organization responded a few hours later, stating that they were not aware of the existence of the Valentine, and that they did not distribute it.

CMU's President, George E. Ross, released a statement Thursday afternoon addressing the incident.

We are deeply disappointed by last night’s situation with a Valentine card containing an inappropriate sentiment that was produced during a student organization meeting. This is not who we are as a campus community. Such hurtful, offensive language, while protected by the First Amendment, is unacceptable and is not consistent with our values and standards.

Ross urged students to keep a level head about them in response to the card, noting that any threat of violence could have legal consequences.
