Discount Furniture and Appliance Retailer to Close All Michigan Stores

It seems like every week we are hearing about another retailer or restaurant chain shuttering locations across the country.

Other recent closure announcements include Big Lots, Macy's, Walgreens, Denny's, Red Lobster, and Outback Steakhouse.

American Freight to Close All Michigan Locations

Now, we can add discount furniture and appliance retailer, American Freight, to the list.

The parent company, Ohio-based Franchise Group, Inc., also owns Pet Supplies Plus, The Vitamin Shoppe and Buddy's Home Furnishings.

Franchise Group, Inc. announced last week that it has filed for bankruptcy and is restructuring. While the company aims to continue running its other businesses as normal, all American Freight stores are closing across the country.

Franchise Group, Inc. said in a release,

As part of this strategy, FRG has determined to wind down American Freight, which has struggled due to sustained inflation and macroeconomic challenges facing the large durable goods sector.

There are 328 American Freight Stores nationwide and 16 in Michigan.

American Freight Liquidation Sales

Store closing sales at all locations and online began November 5.

Sales include up to 30 percent off the lowest ticketed prices. Items you can buy include living room sets, bedroom furniture, dining room furniture, refrigerators, washers, and dryers.
