5 Things You Can Always Do Around Grand Rapids
Boredom is a curious thing. In a time where they say the world is at our fingertips, we still find times when we have nothing to do, or nothing sounds fun. Sometimes you just need a spark to get out of a rut. Luckily for you, I have been bored many times over the years.

I don't want to toot my own horn, but I feel like I've gotten pretty good at doing random stuff around West Michigan, both for free and for a fee. Here are a few sure-fire things you can do around Grand Rapids, no matter what time of year.
Going To The Lake
Getting this one out of the way because it is the thing to do in West Michigan. Whether you're on the sand or getting lost in one of the lake towns like Holland or Saugatuck, you can always find a way to have fun. People don't think of going to the lake in the winter, but there can be some pretty incredible views of the ice. Just make sure to bundle up.

Bowling
Bowling isn't free, but it is pretty cheap, and you can get a good amount of time for just a few bucks. You don't have to be good at bowling; part of the fun sometimes comes from you and your friends all being bad at it. But there are plenty of bowling alleys around Grand Rapids, like Eastbrook Lanes or Station 300.
Visit A State or County Park
Michigan is known for its natural beauty and numerous outdoor activities. This is evident through the state's dedication to preserving much of its greenery and forests. What is in each park varies, with some providing access to sports equipment, trails to walk, boating, camping, and more.

Thrifting or Antique Shopping
West Michigan, and Grand Rapids especially, has a very big thrifting/vintage/antique scene. From the South Division vintage stores to the many antique shops, both big (Century Antiques) and small (Wally's Treasures), you could spend hours strolling through these shops. Even if you don't purchase anything, seeing what hidden treasures you might stumble across is a great time.
Take A Walking Tour Around Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids' Heritage Hill neighborhood is one of the most well-preserved historic neighborhoods in the country, featuring uniquely designed homes in excellent condition. Many of the homes are over 100 years old, and once a year, the Heritage Hill Association holds home tours for select homes.
