While we've already seen some traveling pickle events and big stadium pop-ups in Michigan earlier this year, there is nothing quite like a homegrown tradition. Before the nationwide trends caught on, Berrien Springs was already paving the way—and this 4th of July, West Michigan's original, community-driven pickle party is back for its sixth annual year!

I’ve lived in West Michigan my whole life, and for the longest time, I had no idea we had our very own official festival. Naturally, I had to tell my husband, Charlie. He’s a total pickle fanatic, and he’s definitely not alone. The pickle passion continues to go incredibly strong, with people putting them in everything from pizza and popcorn to ice cream and beer. There’s just something about that salty, tangy crunch we can't seem to resist.

Get ready to celebrate the almighty pickle in the most authentic way possible at the Berrien Springs Pickle Festival!

When and Where Is Michigan's Pickle Festival?

The Berrien Springs Pickle Festival returns this Saturday, July 4. The main festivities kick off at 10 a.m. and run until 3 p.m., making it the perfect daytime celebration before the town's big 4th of July Parade starts at 4 p.m.

The action is centered around the History Center at Courthouse Square, the Berrien Springs Community Library, and expanding right across the street into Memorial Park. Best of all? Unlike those pricey ticketed tours, this event is completely free and open to the public.

What to Expect: The Official July 4th Lineup

What’s on the (pickle-packed) agenda?

Expect more than 50 artisan, craft, and delicious food vendors lining the streets, plus a packed schedule of events:

• 10 a.m. — Kickoff & Ice Cream Social: Start your morning sweet before getting salty.
• 11 a.m. — Big Wheel Races: Watch the racers fly down N. Main near the Post Office.
• 11:45 a.m. — Royal Crowning: Head over to the Memorial Park Stage to see the crowning of the 2026 Pickle Prince and Princess. (Local kids ages 5–12 can apply via email with a short essay or video by July 1st to win the crown!)
• 12 p.m. — Free Cake & History: Catch local historical reenactments and score some free cake at American Legion Post 85.
• 12:05 p.m. — Relish Eating & Frozen T-Shirt Contests: Cheer on the brave souls competing in the Flamm Pickle & Packing Company relish-eating showdown on the Memorial Park Stage, followed immediately by a hilarious Frozen T-Shirt race (you can sign up for this one the day of the fest!).
• 12:30 p.m. — The Famous Pickle Fling: Head to Memorial Park to watch competitors launch pickles to see who can smash the legendary town record.
• 2:45 p.m. — Awards Ceremony: Find out who won the day's big events before the festival officially wraps at 3 p.m.
