New Smash Burger Restaurant Opens in Grand Rapids

Founders of Grand Rapids' Any Colour You Like Proper Made Popsicles, Jason and Korin, have opened a new mom and pop takeout joint.

The new restaurant, Black Napkin, is located at 966 Fulton St. East. The site is the former home of Rinaldi Pizza and Subs, which permanently closed last year.

The owners have spent the last year renovating and updating the space.

Black Napkin is open Wednesday through Saturday 11:30a.m. to 8p.m. They are currently open for walk-in only, but will add online ordering soon.

What kind of food can you get at Black Napkin?

The owners say,

The food and sodas are made in the same thoughtful way as their pops: with real food, and the highest quality ingredients. Welcome to flavor country, y'all!

Black Napkins smash burgers are made with a 3 oz. Michigan craft beef patty served on a Nantucket sesame seed challah bun.

You can order a single, double, or triple. Burgers and sandwiches range in price from $9 to $18.

Burger options include the Classic Cheeseburger with American cheese and fixings, The Fussy Hussy with Swiss and Olive Mayo, and Le College Dropout, which has Grand Cru Cheese, Smashed Vidalia Onion, Arugula, Peppercorn Tomato Jam, and Herb De Provence Mayo.

Burgers and sandwiches can be made vegetarian or vegan.

Black Napkin also serves Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwiches, like the Hot Sweet and Sticky, which is a buttermilk brined, breaded, and fried boneless chicken thigh, with turmeric slaw, Thai basil mayo, and sweet n spicy chili glaze.

You'll also find French Fries, and House Made Sodas like Pistachio Orange Blossom and Elderberry Cream Soda.

The pops are nut-free and made with local and/or sustainable, organic ingredients; no additives, dyes, corn syrups or preservatives. Their main flavors are vegan and gluten free.

You'll find unique flavors like Banana-Dragon Fruit Sherbet, Orange-Carrot-Ginger, and Stay Puft, which is creamy chocolate swirled with toasted marshmallow, vanilla bean and maple syrup, then blended with sweet potato.

Aside from their new storefront at Black Napkin, you can also find Any Colour You Like Pops at local restaurants Lucy’s and Linear, and at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market.
