Recently the Supreme Court voted 6-3 to wipe away the ban on bump stocks. If you are not a gun enthusiast you may not even know what a bump stock is.

A bump stock replaces a rifle's standard stock allowing a semiautomatic weapon to fire faster. It works by sliding back and forth against a person's shoulder while shooting.

Since automatic weapons are illegal in the United States, the bump stock was developed as a way around the law. I have shot a few semiautomatic rifles and they can be fired quickly so there is no need for a bump stock.

I had never heard of a bump stock until 2017 when the Las Vegas mass shooting happened during the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival. 64-year-old Stephen Paddock shot a semiautomatic weapon using a bump stock killed 60 people and wounded 413 others. So you gun people don't start whining, I'm not against semiautomatic guns but disagree with the use of bump stocks because it helps a weapon act like an automatic.

According to Patch, Michigan senator Dayna Polehanki (D-Livonia) recently introduced a bill, that would make bump stocks illegal to manufacture, sell, and possess across the state. This is not a ban on semiautomatic weapons, just the bump stock.

If the bill is passed, Michigan wouldn't be alone on the ban on bump stocks. There are 15 other states and the District of Columbia already has a similar ban.
