Head Coach Dan Campbell

It's not often that an NFL head coach can lead a team for two seasons with a record of 12-21-1 and the players, coaches, and the city of Detroit fall in love with the guy but that is what has happened to Dan Campbell. You can't help but like this guy and see the vision after the Lions won 8 of their last 10 games in 2022 and almost snuck into the playoffs as a wildcard.

When the Lions went 1-6 in the 2022 season and then traded tight end T.J. Hockenson to the Minnesota Vikings, I about lost my mind, how can you get rid of one of the best players on the team? We Lions fans have seen this in the past, Detroit cuts a player then we have to watch them succeed and even go to a Super Bowl. Now that didn't happen with Hockenson but he and the Vikings did get into the playoffs. I shook my head on that one but the Lions got some great draft picks and Brock Wright really filled Hockenson's shoes.

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes has been making great decisions on players and what to pay them along with scoring some good draft picks for this year. He has done a remarkable job with free agency as well.

I will say trading running back Jamaal Williams to the New Orleans Saints was another head-scratcher but Homles pulled in former Chicago Bear David Montgomery and hopefully, this proves to be as smart as the Hockenson move.

Lions Score Big in Free Agency

Picking up C.J. Gardner-Johnson from the Philadelphia Eagles was huge for Holmes. Not to mention a 3-year deal with cornerback Cam Sutton and a one-year deal with cornerback Emmanual Moseley has the Lions looking better than any team in their division. Some experts are even saying they should dominate their division this season.

What is crazy to me is hearing sports shows talk so positively about the Lions as a team is something I have not heard in my whole life. Sure there were great things said about Mathew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Barry Sanders, and Billy Sims but it was always their individual talent, not the team they were on.

The Lions struck gold last NFL draft picking up Aidan Hutchinson and they have some solid pick positions for this year's draft so the building of a winning house in Detroit may be completed.
