Meet Cheese Grater Guy: The Lions Fan With An Awesome Hat
It's been an exciting time to be a Lions fan. It's been great not to be the butt of the joke every season, but it's even greater being good enough that we can talk smack and be able to back it up. A prime example of this is the Lions' absolute thrashing of the Green Bay Packers last week.
The Lions embarrassed their division rivals on the road. One Lions fan went viral after he was featured on the television screens with an iconic piece of headwear following a Lions TD, and now that fan has addressed the public.
Cheese Grater Guy
There were many iconic moments in the game last week. An incredible Pick-6 interception right before halftime, Amon-ra St. Brown doing a headstand, this awesome play-call from radio host Dan Miller, and, of course, Cheese Grater Guy.
Following a 4th and 1 red zone touchdown by Jaymr Gibbs, the TV cameras found one fan amongst the crowd who was sporting a unique headwear. Packers fans, known colloquially as "Cheese Heads", are known for their cheese slice hats. This fan was sporting a hat about cheese's worst enemy: a cheese grater. Upon learning his hat was a hit, the fan took to X to identify himself.
Meet David Bodine, a long-time Lions fan who has been rocking his cheese grater hat for over 10 years. Funnily enough, his wife is a Packers fan, which he says makes football season "interesting". This new level of attention for his hat is apparently nothing out of the ordinary for him, saying that the Cheesegrater hat is always a hit when he wears it at games. Fellow fans usually ask to take photos with him.
Bodine has handled the spotlight well and everyone he has interacted with on X has all been good sports. The Lions play the Texans next week at 8:30 PM.
