Love flying GRR? Turns out a lot of people do!
Grand Rapids Gerald R. Ford International airport is in the running for best small airport in the U.S. in a USA Today 10Best Readers Poll. While giant airports like JFK, LAX, and ATL get a lot of attention, USA Today wants to highlight smaller airports that excel with commercial flight offerings, easy access, and amenities.
Twenty of the top small airports around the country were chosen by a panel of experts, and now it is up to a public vote.
Gerald R. Ford Airport actually took the No. 1 spot last year - can we make it happen again?
USA Today calls GRR "the gateway to the sprawling shore of Lake Michigan."
The publication praises the airport's dedicated military welcome center, plane-themed playrooms for kids, and the bar and restaurant offerings.
In case you missed it, not to long ago GRR added a wine bar/ bookstore.
The airport also expanded last year with fourteen new gates, new restaurants and a beer garden.
According to GRR, the airport contributes over $3 billion annually in economic activity in the West Michigan region and connects more than three million passengers a year to destinations across the glob.
