USA Today and 10Best were on the hunt for the best main streets in the country. A panel of experts chose 20 places with charming main streets that are "living history, have a vibrant culture, and serve as the hearts of their communities."

The Michigan main street voted No. 1 in the U.S. is Howell! 

Howell, Mich., is the largest city and county seat of Livingston County. Platted in 1835 by a group of settlers from Detroit, it was later incorporated in 1863.

Howell offers many events and festivals throughout the year, including multiple along its iconic main street like the Howell Melon Festival and the Sunday Farmer's Market.

In the historic downtown you'll find boutiques, salons, restaurants, coffee shops and more.

Back when Michigan was a booming metropolis for business, you would've seen factories galore. Take a look at a now long gone piece of history in Howell, that supplied condensed milk to the residents of Howell. Unfortunately, a fire took out the factory in 1912.
