Kent County Animal Shelter Extends 'Empty The Shelters' Program

Have you been looking to adopt a furry family member? Now is the time!

Last month Kent County Animal Shelter put out an urgent call for help as the facility was at capacity. With the help of Bissel Pet Foundation, they were able to offer reduced pet adoption fees with "Empty the Shelters".

Since the inception of this program in 2016, "Empty the Shelters" has helped find homes for more than 280,000 pets.

Kent County Animal Shelter Extends Empty the Shelters

Originally, "Empty the Shelters" was set to end at Kent County Animal Shelter Oct. 14 - but they've now extended it, after taking in 17 dogs in one night.

The shelter shared to Facebook on Tuesday:

We took in SEVENTEEN dogs overnight! We are thankful to have a warm, safe spot for displaced & unhoused dogs to land BUT we only have so much kennel space. We make it work but we are having to continue to ask for help.

Bissell has agreed to extend empty the shelters through Tuesday Oct. 22.

Dog adoptions are $50. That includes them being licensed, spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed, started on monthly flea and tick and heartworm preventatives, and a general vet check over.

You can stop in during Kent County Animal Shelter's business hours, no appointment needed. Keep in mind adoptions end 45 minutes prior to closing time.

If you find a lost pet, they ask that you try to hold onto it for 24 hours and use social media and flyers to attempt to locate the family. Also, upload a photo to Petco Love Lost.
