Ladies, This New Michigan Law Was Made Just For You
Women are so strong. As a man, I will never ever understand what women go through. Motherhood is one of those things. Creating a child inside you and having that child rely on you is a beautiful and incredible thing.
However, one essential part of being a mother is something that is sometimes deemed unacceptable by society. But this new Michigan law, effectively immediately, will now protect women from being discriminated for doing this.
The new law, dubbed SENATE BILL No. 351, focuses entirely on breastfeeding in public. Mothers providing milk to their babies is a natural part of motherhood. However, when a mother does this in public, it can be frowned upon and mothers can shamed for it. Some buildings provide a designated private room for them to do this, but that isn't always an option.
This law makes businesses and public spaces in Michigan no longer allowed to discourage or restrict breastfeeding. If a mom does face discrimination for breastfeeding, she now has the right to take action, which could include filing complaints or even pursuing legal options to hold those spaces accountable.
While public breastfeeding is perfectly legal in all 50 states, there are many instances of mothers being removed from stores or places for breastfeeding in public to avoid making others uncomfortable, especially men. This law is a step in the right direction to make public breastfeeding more socially acceptable.
