A man who is a candidate vying for a seat on the Kent County Board of Commission may be getting a seat in jail after being charged with felony gross indecency.

A felony gross indecency charge, if convicted is considered a sex crime in Michigan. The charge covers a lot of ground like the fact that it involves lewd, or lascivious behavior.
There are two categories felony gross indecency fall in: One is committing a sex act in public and the second is committing a sex act involving a minor even if the act was committed in private.
Committing a sex act in public includes:
- Sexual intercourse
- Cunnilingus
- Fellatio
- Masturbation
- Touching a private part of the body
- Sexual penetration in a public location, such as a rest stop, bathroom, and in a park.
- If a member of the community sees the act
Committing a sex act involving a minor:
- Inducing a minor to engage in activity that provides sexual pleasure for an adult.

Man Running for Kent County Commissioner Facing Gross Indecency Charge
When campaigning for public office, it is probably not a good idea to allegedly commit a sex crime. According to FOX 17, David Lee Boelkes is charged with allegedly committing felony gross indecency. If convicted Boelkes could be incarcerated for up to 5 years.
Court records indicated that an officer discovered a group participating in sexual activities at Buck Creek Nature Preserve in Wyoming, on June 19. Boelkes was allegedly involved. Boelkes will be in front of a judge on July 18.
