A woman was being held hostage in Greenville, Michigan, and managed to use a gaming console to alert her family and friends to send law enforcement to rescue her.

Friends and family began getting messages on Monday through a gaming console from a 20-year-old woman that he boyfriend would allow her to leave. The boyfriend allegedly damaged her phone and made it inoperable so she was able to phone anyone for help.

According to 9 and 10 News, the boyfriend is 22-year-old Christian P. Clevenger who is from Greenville.

Sheriff deputies arrived at Clevenger's home to do a wellness check on the young woman and when no one answered the door they busted in and found the two inside. The woman said her boyfriend wouldn't allow her to leave after asking him time and time again for a week and he would not comply.

Clevenger was arrested and has been charged with unlawful imprisonment.
